Purpose and power

Our Tuesday night Bible fellowship began a chapter-by-chapter study of Acts last week. In chapter 1 we considered Jesus' mandate to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost ends of the earth. This is his purpose for every follower of his.

In this same verse, Acts 1:8, the Lord promises power for the task. This promised power is supernatural, coming from the Spirit of the Lord himself. And it is available to every believer for the asking. Paul tells us that this power is incomparably great for those of us who believe. (Ephesians 1:19)

This raises the question: If this power of the Spirit is available to us for the asking, why are we willing to settle for anything less?
